Anthony Waldmann Frame House
(ca. 1855/1885-90)
Saint Paul, Minnesota
The Anthony Waldmann House (now the Waldmann Brewery) is a two-story, limestone masonry building built in 1857 and is one of few remaining Pioneer-era solid stone buildings in Saint Paul. The building is rubble limestone on three sides, and ashlar limestone on the primary façade.
The masonry portion of the house is now considered the primary building at the property—however, the attached, 1½-story wood frame house pre-dates it by about two years. A substantial portion of the wood frame structure was rebuilt between 1885 and 1890, leaving only the foundation, sill beams, and first floor of the original structure remaining.
The wood frame house was determined to be structurally unsound, and prior to demolition, documentation to Level II of the Minnesota Historic Property Record (MHPR RA-SPC-3406) was performed for the building’s owner.
