experience

DANIEL R. PRATT is a federally qualified architectural historian and archaeologist. Skilled in large format photography, he has an extensive background as a HABS, HAER, and HALS photographer.

This experience is complemented by his expertise in determining the eligibility of historic buildings and structures for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Dan’s knowledge and 35 years’ experience give him a unique ability to create images that effectively convey a property’s historical significance.

ARCH³ is celebrating 20 years of providing knowledgeable solutions for the identification, evaluation, and documentation of historic properties under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, the Library of Congress’s Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS), the Historic American Engineering Record (HAER), the Historic American Landscapes Survey (HALS) programs, and the Minnesota Historic Property Record (MHPR).

I recommend Daniel Pratt’s work as a photographer and architectural historian with great enthusiasm. He has tremendous knowledge and experience in photographic documentation of historic buildings and structures, and is ready, willing, and able to overcome difficult settings and logistics. He is easy to work with and produces a high quality product, and I look forward to working with Dan again in the future.

Dan Pratt created remarkable photographs of otherwise unremarkable places. He will go the extra mile to deliver a great product. He’s a pleasure to work with.

Will Stark – Owner, Stark Preservation Planning

Dan and I worked on one of his historic documentation projects in an extremely demanding environment; 30 feet underground in a completely blacked out tunnel with water flowing through it. Over two days I experienced Dan’s professionalism, knowledge of history and archaeology as well as his energy and enthusiasm. He solved several very challenging technical photography problems using wit, planning and discipline. As a fellow photographer, I have no hesitation in recommending his work; especially where innovation and dedication are required.

Daniel did all of the [photographic] work for our nomination of Thompson Hall, the only Deaf club in the United States designed by the Deaf architect, Olaf Hanson, to be listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The passion, skill and care he put into the work was impressive. I cannot imagine anyone doing a better job. Thompson Hall is now on the Register primarily because of the advocacy of the Deaf community and Daniel’s excellent work. I highly recommend him.

Mary Hartnett – Former Executive Director, Commission of Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing Minnesotans

The company I work for, Summit Envirosolutions, Inc, has subcontracted Daniel for development of archival black & white photographs for various projects, including national and state documentation. He is always ready and available to fulfill difficult deadlines. He has put in long hours to meet those deadlines while supplying a superlative final product. He is also willing to communicate with me to achieve reaching a final product that will be a good reflection on both companies. He is consistent and reliable in all the work he provides Summit. We consistently return to him for his expertise.

Renee Barnes – Historian, Summit Envirosolutions

I have hired Dan several times to photograph my listings before they are presented to the marketplace. Dan’s photos always turn out excellent the first time and I am able to rely on his expertise and I do not feel I have to ”direct” him in any way. I have worked with MANY real estate photographers over the years and Dan’s background in architecture sets him far apart from the rest. Dan is honest, reliable, creative, and offers far more value than many others in his field.
