Waterfront Drive Reconstruction
Two Harbors, Minnesota
ARCH3, LLC conducted a Phase I architectural history investigation for the proposed reconstruction of Waterfront Drive (former 6th Street and Poplar Street) in Two Harbors, Minnesota. Because Lake County received FHWA funding for the reconstruction, a review of the undertaking’s effects was required under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act was required.
The Phase I/II investigation examined 25 properties, three of which were listed in the National Register of Historic Places (including the Dwan Building housing the 3M Company Museum). All three retained sufficient integrity to maintain their NRHP-listed status. The remaining 22 properties were recommended not eligible for listing in the NRHP due to a lack of historical significance or poor integrity.
