Tenth Avenue Storm Sewer
(1882)
Minneapolis, Minnesota
The Tenth Ave Storm Sewer tunnel (MHPR HE-MPC-9776) was constructed in 1882 as part of the first planned sewer system in Minneapolis. By 2010, the brick and concrete tunnel was in poor condition and required replacement. Large format photographic documentation of the tunnel for the Minnesota Historic Property Record (MHPR) was performed for The 106 Group, Ltd. and required camera setups in moving water and confined spaces, the use of hand-held strobe “painting” to illuminate tunnel features, and work in high-humidity, sub-freezing temperature environments.
