Lafayette Bridge

Carrying US Route 52, the Lafayette Bridge (MHPR RA-SPC-7891) was one of the longest bridges over the Mississippi River. Opened in 1968, the bridge nearly collapsed in 1975 after a 6-foot crack opened in a main stringer. Subsequent repairs allowed the bridge to be reopened and it remained in service until replaced in 2014.
