Minneapolis Western Railway Company Bridge Abutment 02

Incorporated in 1884, the Minneapolis Western Railway constructed a bridge just below St. Anthony Falls to serve the east and west bank milling industries of Minneapolis. Although the railroad bridge was demolished in 1952, the imposing masonry abutment (MHPR HE-MPC-5957) remained in place– mostly hidden from view by later interstate construction. ARCH3, LLC documented the abutment with large format photography for theĀ Minnesota Historic Property Record (MHPR) after the I-35W Bridge collapsed on it in 2007.
